Dumfries House is a uniquely wonderful venue for lunch and a lecture. Additionally, the Estate and the House interiors are full of beauty and interest. Before or after lunch, members and guests may take the opportunity to see the latest developments and changes in the grounds, including the Chinese Bridge, the Maze, the Queen Elizabeth Walled Garden and the 500-tree Arboretum. In the House itself, the 300th anniversary of Thomas Chippendale’s birth is being celebrated with specialist tours offered.
Lunch A two-course lunch with tea or coffee will be served in the Pavilion. The cost is £40.00 pp, not including soft or alcoholic drinks - these can be purchased from the Pavilion bar.
Each member may invite a guest.
Speaker Our after-lunch speaker, Simon Cottle, is a leading auctioneer, Bonhams Director and Arts Society Lecturer. His topic is Sir Thomas Lipton, one of Glasgow’s most famous and successful sons. From humble origins in the Gorbals, he was to become world renowned as tea merchant and yachtsman.
